Reedición de Red Hot + Blue: A Tribute to Cole Porter

El próximo 25 de abril Shout! reeditará Red Hot + Blue: A Tribute to Cole Porter en forma de set de CD - DVD (hasta ahora sólo estaba disponible en VHS).

Editado originalmente en 1990, este tributo a la obra de Cole Porter cuyos beneficios se destinaron a la lucha contra el SIDA (fue disco de platino y recaudó 3 millones de dólares) reunió a buena parte de los estrellones de la época y a algún despistado que pasaba por allí. Entre los primeros, U2, Sinead O'Connor, Fine Young Cannibals, Lisa Stanfield o Annie Lennox. Entre los segundos, The Pogues, Les Negresses Vertes o Tom Waits, que grabó para la ocasión un cover de It's All Right With Me.

Además de la parte puramente musical, Red Hot + Blue fue también un proyecto videográfico en el que directores como Wim Wenders o Jean Baptiste Mondino pusieron imágenes a las canciones del disco. Varios de ellos aprovecharon para rodar videoclips explícitamente relacionados con la lucha contra el SIDA. Y después estaba Jim Jarmusch, que ya había trabajado con Waits en Bajo el Peso de la Ley (Down By Law, 1986) y Mistery Train (1989) y aprovechó para rodar esto:

Tom Waits a la voz, el Chamberlin y la percusión.

Y dice The Tom Waits Supplement, que no se equivoca nunca, que el tema fue interpretado originalmente por Peter Cookson en el musical Can-Can (1953) y que la grabación más popular es la que hizo Frank Sinatra.
